Computer freezes while reading the CD-ROM due to loose data cable.
Cause:
Data cable connected to the controller and either the CD-ROM drive (internal drives) or the adapter connector on the back on the computer (external drives) is loose.
Solution:
Turn off the computer, and disconnect external power cords. Push on the ribbon cable ends making sure the cable is fully seated onto the connector. Replace the computer cover, reconnect external power cables, and turn on the computer.
WARNING: Electrical shock hazard! Make sure the power is turned off and the external power cables have been disconnected before removing the computer cover.
CAUTION 1: This task should be performed by a qualified computer technician.
CAUTION 2: Observe ESD (electrostatic discharge) considerations. Use a wrist strap or equivalent.
1) Turn off the power to computer and all external components.
2) Make sure the power cord is disconnected from the computer.
3) Remove the computer cover.
4) Inspect any ribbon cables connected to the CD-ROM controller and to either the CD-ROM drive (for internal drives only) or to an adapter connector on the back on the computer (for external drives only).
5) Gently push on the ribbon cables ends making sure that the ribbon cable is fully seated on the connector.
6) Replace the computer cover.
7) Connect the external power cord to the computer, and turn on the computer.
